Local Anaesthetic, Adrenaline, & Nail Surgery Update Training ( 6 hours, Blended Learning)

Course Cost: €300

NB: This CPD is Targeted at Chiropodists/Podiatrists who have completed L.A and nail surgery training at an undergraduate level previously.

Price includes:

All outcomes as detailed on the Learning Outcomes section, plus:

  • 2 hour online lecturer to provide an evidence based theoretical update
  • 4 Hour practical session, delivered face to face in small groups (Maximum of 6 delegates per tutor)
  • Update on several injection techniques such as draw up and administering of Lidocaine and adrenaline from ampoules as well as the use mepivacaine cartridges and EpiPens.
  • Update on PNA and TNA techniques using Phenol
  • Delegates will get the chance to practice their skills in a safe and controlled environment using simulation training models under close supervision
  • Practical Assessment of Skills and MCQ Exam
  • Certification of completion and assessed competence on the day.

The face-to-face practical training will be available in Galway, Dublin, Cork and Donegal


On successful completion of this course a delegate will:

  • Demonstrate safe knowledge of the Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology pertinent to L.A, and Nail Surgery
  • Demonstrate and understanding of the pre procedure assessments to ensure patient suitability for both Nail Surgery and L.A
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Infection Prevention Control measures pertinent to L.A and Nail Surgery
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the safe storage and control of Drugs on Podiatric premises
  • Demonstrate a safe knowledge of the maximum safe dose of drugs used in L.A and Nail Surgery
  • Demonstrate safe calculation of Patient Specific Maximum safe dose of drugs used in L.A and Nail Surgery
  • Demonstrate safe administration of L.A (Lidocaine and Mepivacaine) using the 3 most prevalent injection set ups.
  • Demonstrate safe Nail Surgery technique using phenol (Partial and total avulsion techniques)
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the required standard of record keeping pertinent to L.A and Nail Surgery
  • Demonstrate safe recognition of Symptoms of Anaphylaxis, Overdose and other common clinical emergencies pertinent to L.A and nail surgery
  • Demonstrate safe administration of adrenaline using standard ampoules and EpiPen delivery techniques
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Post intervention care requirements following L.A and Nail Surgery

Assessment

Each participant will be assessed through continual assessment on the training day and will be deemed to have passed the course when they have demonstrated safe practice and passed the MCQ.

A certificate will be issued on successful completion of the course.

Experience:

David has been delivering the theoretical and practical training for the Galway Podiatric Medicine Undergraduates in L.A, Nail Surgery and Adrenaline for many years. The outcome being thousands of safe and effective nail surgery procedures carried out under local anaesthetic by undergraduate students and qualified practitioners under his clinical governance since 2010.

The face to face practical training has so far been available in Dublin, Cork, and Galway with over 60 Podiatrists attending the sessions.
